About the Role:
The Senior Legal Counsel will manage and oversee the legal aspects of our cryptocurrency exchange operations. This role focuses on ensuring compliance with evolving global financial and cryptocurrency regulations, drafting and negotiating complex contracts, managing comprehensive data protection obligations, and providing strategic legal insights to support the company’s operations and growth. This position demands a proactive approach to navigating the complex regulatory landscapes, anticipating legal challenges, and safeguarding the organization's interests while supporting innovative business initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
International Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure adherence to international cryptocurrency regulations, including managing license applications, opening new business units, and preparing operational compliance across various regions such as the EU, UK, LATAM, and Asia
- Keep abreast of regulatory changes and adapt company policies and procedures to maintain compliance
- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of legal documents including partnership agreements, vendor contracts, and customer terms of service and policies
- Handle contract management with an emphasis on securing favorable terms and mitigating risks
- Work closely with regulators from different regions, managing license applications, requests, and regulatory inquiries effectively
- Facilitate the company’s responses to regulatory developments and ensure compliant operations across all business activities
- Advise on corporate law, maintain the integrity of corporate documents, ensuring that all corporate filings, records, and registers are accurate, up-to-date, and reflect the latest legal standards and business practices
- Handle the processes of opening and liquidating companies in different regions, dealing with all associated corporate governance and legal matters, and ensure compliance with tax laws
- Identify legal risks associated with business operations and recommend mitigating strategies
- Stay updated with changes in laws that affect the sector and adjust company policies accordingly
- Oversee the company’s adherence to global data protection laws like GDPR, ensuring the protection and privacy of customer data
- Develop and implement robust data governance frameworks to manage massive amounts of personal data from customers worldwide
- At least a Master's, Bachelor's, or equivalent law degree from a recognized institution
- At least 5 years of legal experience as a legal counsel in banking/financial services, fintech, or cryptocurrency sectors
- Deep knowledge of international cryptocurrency regulation, banking, and securities laws in various regions such as the EU, US, UK, LATAM, and Asia
- Comprehensive understanding of corporate, data protection, and tax laws
- Proficient in drafting and negotiating various types of contracts and in deal structuring
- Ability to handle and manage complex legal projects independently
- Certification in data protection and proficiency with data privacy regulations
- Deep knowledge of various blockchain products including spot, staking, derivatives, crypto cards, and OTC trading
- Experience working in recognized international crypto exchanges and fintech companies
- Excellent communication skills, with fluency in professional English, both written and oral
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities
